Two-game losing streaks are pretty common. They are going to happen. Of course, when they happen at the start of the season to two of the teams biggest rivals, after an off-season that saw the team go through tons of changes, it does make things seem a little worse. But they aren't that bad.

This was the first game between the Wings and Blackhawks since Chicago forward Patrick Sharp inadvertently speared Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom in the testicles in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals. But Lidstrom doesn't hold any grudges. He was impressed that Sharp called him to apologize after the Stanley Cup finals.

While Mike Smith's goaltending did seem a bit suspect, the game wasn't as ugly as the score indicated.

They have averaged 27 wins at home the past four seasons and have not won fewer than 23 games at home during the span. Detroit, New Jersey and Minnesota are the only other teams to match that record.

The Avalanche caught a break at 11:02 of the third period while nursing a 2-1 lead. Goalie Craig Anderson managed to get a piece of the puck after Nashville's Patric Hornqvist skated in on a breakaway. The puck lay in the crease and the Predators' Jason Arnott nudged it across the goal line with his skate as he charged to the net. The goal was immediately waved off and the play stood that way following a video review. But Hornqvist tied the game 1:29 later and scored again with 5:12 to play when he camped in front and redirected Shea Weber's shot into the net.
